R.S.V.P.:  Retired and Senior Volunteer Program

RSVP has been sponsored by FOCUS on Senior Citizens since 1973.  RSVP recruits volunteers, 55 or older, for short term or long term placements with non-profit community agencies that need their assistance.  There are many benefits in the program.  Most notable is free supplementary accident and excess auto insurance coverage while participating in volunteer activity or while driving to and from such work.  On a  limited basis, transportation is provided for volunteers who do not drive.   For some seniors who could  not otherwise afford to volunteer, a small mileage allowance can be arranged.

Volunteers tell us this is only part of their lives.  They travel; they play with their  grandchildren.  They still garden and keep up interests at home.  But for part of the week or month, they volunteer, thereby enriching their own lives and the lives of others.

If you are 55 or older you are needed.   The RSVP Program is designed to take advantage of your abilities, wisdom and interests.

Somebody Needs You to:

· run a gift shop · teach a craft · tell a story · answer a telephone · be a friend · assist a teacher · repair a home · teach an adult to read ·  deliver a meal · share a skill · work with the handicapped · answer a hot line · play the piano · provide transportation · explain homework · prepare a tax return · type a letter · guide in a museum · tutor a child · do some bookkeeping · help a homebound person · plant a shrub · distribute health information · sing a song · quilt a quilt · make daily check-up call to a shut-in senior · help someone find a job · help in many other ways.
